Twisted Tamarind

This is an interesting variety of Tamarind Trees in my village Kothure in Nasik District, Maharashtra India. I am referring to this as variety, rather than a tree because there are several trees in my village like this. Incidentally they are all in the same area.

The stem has marks, as if someone has twisted it for some reason. Similar to a cloth being twisted to dry after washing.
